Professional Air Purification for Chiropody & Aesthetic Clinics — ESI Show Toronto 2026
Your treatments generate what
clinicians and clients shouldn't breathe.
Laser plume, chemical fumes, fungal spores — routine aesthetic and chiropody procedures release a complex mixture of airborne contaminants directly into treatment room air. The iO+ eliminates 99.9% of them, silently and continuously.
What your procedures emit into clinic air
Peer-reviewed research (NIOSH, OSHA, CDC) confirms that most aesthetic and chiropody treatments generate measurable airborne contaminants. The matrix below summarizes the emission profile of the most common procedures. H = High, M = Moderate, L = Low, – = Negligible.
| Treatment | Bioaerosol | Odors | VOCs | Particles |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Laser & Light-Based | ||||
| CO₂ / Erbium laser resurfacing | H | H | H | H |
| Laser hair removal | M | H | H | H |
| Laser tattoo removal | M | H | H | H |
| Laser toenail fungus treatment | M | H | M | M |
| Electrosurgery & Cauterization | ||||
| Wart removal (electrocautery) | H | H | H | H |
| Plasma fibroblast | M | H | H | H |
| Chemical Peels | ||||

The complete matrix covers 30+ treatments with detailed emission profiles.
Also includes: IPL/BBL, mole & skin tag removal, electrolysis, glycolic & Vi Peel, diamond-tip microdermabrasion, PRP microneedling, dermaplaning, VASER liposuction, RF skin tightening, HIFU/Ultherapy, vaginal rejuvenation, teeth whitening, injectables, HydraFacial, and more.

Whether you're treating nail conditions or performing energy-based aesthetic procedures, your clinic air carries contaminants that put staff and patients at risk.
Airborne Virus Exposure
Patients and clinicians share enclosed treatment rooms for extended periods. Respiratory viruses, including influenza and SARS-CoV-2, transmit efficiently through aerosols in poorly ventilated clinical spaces. Protecting both parties requires active in-room air treatment, not just passive filtration.
Surgical Smoke Plume
Laser resurfacing, electrocautery, and IPL sessions generate smoke plume containing VOCs, cellular debris, and viable HPV DNA. NIOSH equates daily exposure to smoking 27–30 unfiltered cigarettes.
Chemical Fumes & VOCs
Chemical peels (TCA, Jessner's), disinfectants, and adhesives release formaldehyde (IARC Group 1 carcinogen), benzene, and acrolein. These accumulate throughout the day in enclosed treatment rooms.
Fungal Spores & Keratin Dust
Nail grinding and debridement release dermatophyte spores and fine keratin particles that remain airborne for hours. These lead to cross-contamination between patients and chronic respiratory exposure for clinicians.
Cumulative Staff Exposure
Clinicians breathe treatment room air 8+ hours daily. Documented health effects include chronic bronchitis, respiratory sensitization, headaches, nausea, and increased mutagenic risk from formaldehyde and benzene exposure.
Patient Experience & Confidence
Patients undergoing aesthetic or foot care treatments expect a clinical-grade environment. Visible smoke, burned-tissue odors, and lingering chemical fumes erode patient confidence and perceived quality of care.
Ontario Regulatory Obligation
Under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Ontario employers have a legal duty to protect workers from known airborne hazards. The General Duty Clause requires every reasonable precaution. O. Reg. 67/93 mandates mechanical ventilation inspections every six months. A clinic aware of surgical plume hazards that fails to implement controls faces potential WSIB investigations and civil liability.
iO+ — In-Room Air Purification Technology
Unlike conventional systems that only filter air passing through a duct, the iO+ treats airborne contaminants directly in the treatment room. Four complementary technologies deliver the equivalent of 6 air changes per hour (ACH) without costly HVAC retrofits.

-
✓
Eliminates 99.9% of airborne pathogens — bacteria, viruses, fungi, and spores destroyed at molecular level
-
✓
Destroys VOCs, doesn't just trap them — TiO₂ photocatalysis breaks down formaldehyde, benzene, and surgical smoke at the molecular level
-
✓
Equivalent of 6 ACH — meets ASHRAE and CSA Z317.2 ventilation benchmarks without HVAC upgrades
-
✓
Full room coverage — adapts to all room and clinic sizes — treats the entire room volume, not just air passing through a filter
-
✓
No workflow disruption — silent, continuous operation with no hoses to position or bulky equipment
-
✓
iO+ Smart monitoring — real-time air quality data via mobile app with downloadable compliance reports
How the iO+ treats every contaminant category
Each technology addresses a specific class of airborne hazard. Combined, they provide multi-contaminant coverage that no single-technology purifier can match.
Bipolar Ionization
Generates negative ions that attach to airborne particles, causing them to cluster and settle. Ions also disrupt the surface proteins of pathogens, neutralizing bioaerosols at the source.
Targets: bioaerosols, bacteria, viruses (incl. HPV), ultrafine particles, surgical smoke
Activated Carbon Filtration
High-surface-area activated carbon media adsorbs volatile organic compounds and chemical vapors through molecular bonding. Eliminates toxic gases and odors from laser plume and chemical peels.
Targets: VOCs (benzene, formaldehyde, toluene, acrolein), chemical peel fumes, treatment odors
Controlled Ozone (O₃)
Low-level ozone oxidizes organic compounds and odor molecules on contact, breaking them down into harmless CO₂ and H₂O. Reaches contaminants in every corner of the room.
Targets: persistent odors, residual VOCs, surface bioaerosols, organic particles
TiO₂ Photocatalytic Oxidation
Titanium dioxide catalyst activated by UV light generates hydroxyl radicals that break down VOCs at the molecular level. Unlike carbon adsorption which traps VOCs, photocatalysis destroys them permanently.
Targets: formaldehyde, benzene, toluene, xylene, acrolein, surgical smoke gases

« After more than 20 years in a podiatric clinic, nail dust from mycotic nails is a daily reality. Since we started using ProActiv Air units, the air quality has been completely transformed. I even installed one at home… and my dust and pollen allergies have almost disappeared. It changed my life. »

iO+ vs. conventional HEPA purifiers
HEPA filters capture particles that pass through them, but they cannot destroy VOCs, neutralize odors, or treat air that doesn't reach the filter. Saturated HEPA filters also become biohazardous waste.
| Criteria | iO+ (Ionization) | HEPA Purifier |
|---|---|---|
| Treatment room coverage | ✓ Full room coverage — all sizes | ~ Proximal zone only |
| Odor & VOC elimination | ✓ Destroyed at molecular level | ✗ Mechanical filtration only |
| Fungi & spores | ✓ 99.7% elimination | ~ Partial (if > 0.3 µm) |
| Surgical smoke plume | ✓ All 4 contaminant categories | ~ Particles only, not gases |
| Filter maintenance | ✓ Washable & reusable | ✗ Frequent replacement (biohazardous waste) |
| Annual operating cost | ✓ Minimal (7W electricity) | ✗ $100–300/year in filters |
| Noise level | ✓ Silent operation | ~ Noticeable fan noise |
| Real-time air quality data | ✓ Mobile app + compliance reports | ✗ Not available |
